Creating poetry from pain, Ms. Harris and her cast members create this emotionally and visually stunning original work, centered on experiences from their own lives. Echoes illuminates the profound power of sharing stories – power enough to ignite personal and social change. Taking deliberate aim at the generational ‘echoes’ of caution and criticism that ring in all women’s ears, Echoes shines a bright light on female anger, despair, and strength.
Drawing conceptually from Ntozake Shange's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf, and utilizing Rainbow of Desire techniques, designed by Augusto Boal to confront internalized oppression, this play ignites a pathway into a better future, for both actors and audience.
