HOMEsick is an original work for theatre by Deborah Wallace, exploring the role that mythology plays in shaping a society's identity and beliefs. Fourteen pioneers are on a wagon train heading across the American West, in search of a new life. Instead, they find betrayal. Past being prologue, the action fast-forwards to the present day, where politicians travel the campaign trail, immigrants journey towards our border, addicts trip into opioid dreams. Since the time of Homer, people have searched for a place they could call Home….and betrayal has waited around every corner.
HOMEsick looks at ancient truths to ask where America is headed today, and what we are really searching for. What is the "American Dream," and what happens when it’s reduced to a cautionary parable?
HOMEsick was produced with generous support from the Hellenic Studies Endowment.
